CHOOSING A PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER

It is important that each member of your family has a primary care provider (PCP). Your PCP is the physician or nurse practitioner who provides your primary care on a regular basis. At Family Health Center, each of our physicians works with a nurse practitioner as a PCP team.

Our staff wants to work closely with you to make sure that you and your family stay healthy. Please ask if we can help you choose a PCP.

TYPES OF PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS

Family Health Center employs several different types of primary care providers. We have MDs, DOs, and ARNPs. A brief description of the training backgrounds for each type of provider is listed below. If you have questions, we encourage discussion of training and qualifications directly with your provider.

MD

Medical Doctors have graduated from an accredited medical school. Our MDs are Board certified in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. They have attended medical school for 4 years, followed by at least 3 years of specialty residency training.

DO

Doctors of Osteopathy have graduated from an accredited osteopathic school. Our DOs are Board certified in Family Medicine. They have attended osteopathic school for 4 years, followed by at least 3 years of specialty residency training.

ARNP

Nurse Practitioners have masters level education in nursing and are trained to perform physical examinations, order and interpret lab tests, write prescriptions and manage most common problems encountered in primary care. Our Nurse Practitioners are Board certified in their specialty areas of Women’s Health Care or Family Practice.
